If you are after a holiday with absolutely everything – beaches, rolling hills, museums, art galleries, fantastic entertainment and food – then head for Adelaide. History Founded in 1836 and named after Queen Adelaide (wife of King William IV), the city was meticulously planned by Colonel William Light. His attention to detail resulted in a beautiful city with ocean on one side, rolling hills on the other, and the River Torrens running through. The city centre is completely surrounded by lush parkland, and boasts an easy-to-navigate grid system of exceptionally wide roads.
