Review - Cedars Indulgence Retreat
By Kylie Jane Degeling

TakeABreak Best Places to Stay Awards 2009 National Winner - Romantic Accommodation: Cedars Indulgence Retreat    Every now and then, we catch glimpses of life for the extremely rich. On television, movies, and in magazines, we view stories featuring wealthy men and women immersed in lives of pampering and luxuries. Out loud, of course, we ridicule their excesses, their complete disregard for the real world and their obvious addiction to extravagance. We have to work, after all, and are proud of our accomplishments. But when no one else is around, when we’re all alone after a hard day at the office, cleaning our kitchens or stressing about the day’s events, we secretly wish we could be them…just for a day, of course. Maybe a weekend. Certainly not longer&hel... Read more

By Lisa Monk

Lawson Lodge   The Macedon Ranges in Victoria are beautiful, iconic and known as the home of the famous and mysterious Hanging Rock. The region abounds with wineries, gourmet food providores, picturesque hamlets and stunning scenery that will stir your senses. It is definitely something out of the ordinary – and the perfect place to visit if you are looking for accommodation that is out of the ordinary too. Lawson Lodge is unusual… it’s like a holiday house, but not quite; a resort – but far more intimate; a boutique hotel – but far more personal; a B&B – but you know everyone staying there. In fact Lawson Lodge is all of these things, and more, and when you book the retreat, you can be sure that only your group will be in residence. As... Read more

Hepburn Springs
By Kylie Jane Degeling

Crazy but true – there is a little town of around 750 people near Melbourne that is so invigorating, you’ll actually leave the town younger than you arrived! Well, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but you’ll certainly feel a lot younger. Part of the secret is in the natural springs, each boasting a different concoction of rejuvenating minerals. The rest of the secret lies in the unique and luxurious private retreats scattered across the area. The historic town of Hepburn Springs, which was established during the gold-rush era by Swiss-Italian immigrants, is reminiscent of the quality health retreats you can find throughout Europe. But you don’t need to strike gold to enjoy the luxury, as there are options to suit every budget and if you have a car you ca... Read more

Spotlight on- Saltus
By Lisa Monk

We all know that life is busy and pulling us in many different directions … work, family, friends, community obligations – but what about our obligation to ourselves? We all need the chance to step away, take stock and recharge, otherwise life becomes merely an obstacle course to overcome, rather than the great adventure it is meant to be. Places like Saltus allow us to draw breath and remember what is really important, and the beauty of the surrounding countryside in the Hepburn Springs region of Victoria makes it easy to forget about pressure and deadlines. These luxury villas are set high above the Mineral Springs Reserve, with panoramic views across the valley below, and yet they are in the heart of the village itself, with easy access to the many delights and attrac... The Daylesford and Hepburn Springs region of Victoria is an absolute treat packed with stunning scenery, gorgeous places to stay and many, many ways to be pampered.  The region is famous for being in the forefront of the trend to holistic healing, and the plethora of day spas, restaurants, shops and sights means that you will never run out of things to do. Abelia Cottage is perfectly placed to take advantage of the array of pleasures on offer.  The building is a replica of a miner’s cottage, but offers all mod cons inside.  There are two bedrooms – one with a king-size bed, the other has 3 king singles and there is a double sofa bed in the lounge room.  The cottage is fully self-contained and fresh linen is provided, along with electric blankets for cooler ... Review - Oscars at Avalon
By Col and Judy Williams

Oscars at Avalon Charlie’s Rd, Hepburn Springs A Star Gazer’s Heaven! At only 80 minutes drive from Melbourne, Oscars at Avalon makes the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. All the little touches made us feel immediately welcome: as we walked through the door, soft music was playing, there was red wine on the table and we discovered chocolates in the fridge.
