Editor's Choice - Montaray Cottage
  • View to the gardens
  • Fireside
  • Views of the gorgeous countryside
  • Furry friend!

There are certain parts of the world we call “God’s own country” and this is one of them!  The beautiful Loomberah Valley lies south-east of Tamworth and is a region of rolling hills, wooded valleys and wonderful views wherever you look.

And look no further than Montaray Cottage, 25 minutes from Tamworth and set high in the Loomberah Valley with panoramic views of the countryside.  200 metres from the homestead, this 4 star property offers so much that you will find it hard to drag yourself away to enjoy the surrounding attractions.

The flexible accommodation can sleep up to 5 adults in the three bedrooms, but is also a perfect family-friendly option, with the main bedroom having a queen bed, the second a double and the third a single.  A portacot is also available on request.  All linen is supplied, and the kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, so just collect your companions and head off to this gorgeous rural retreat!

Relax with a coffee while you gaze upon the tranquil scene of country life, or if you are choosing a winter getaway, then the prime spot is in front of the fire with a great book. In summer, the option of air-conditioning is there if you need it. Great breakfasts – really great breakfasts! – are included in the tariff and lunches and candle-lit dinners or picnic hampers are available on request, and all are delivered to the cottage.

The property itself operates as a commercial Angus cattle enterprise and covers approximately 1100 acres of this beautiful, rural wonderland.  Join a guided farm tour or take a bushwalk that leaves you wondering at the beauty of Spring Creek, before meandering back to the comfort of the cottage.

If you can tear yourself away from the property, then you will be spoiled for choice as the countryside around Tamworth offers so much.  You hear Tamworth and you think country music, and if you love it – then book early around the Country Music Festival in January and be prepared for busy times and special prices in the area!  While country music is close to a religion in Tamworth, the second largest inland city in NSW also offers historic homes and churches, the Art Gallery, beautiful parks … and of course, the guitar museum!

The gold in “them thar hills” isn’t just Golden Guitars, the historic goldmining township of Nundle is only 40 minutes from Montaray Cottage, and also boasts a wool mill, annual great dog race and excellent antique hunting!  Other choices include nearby Armidale – the city of churches, which also has wonderful markets and festivals; Manilla and its range of water activities on two different dams; and nearby wineries  - Ironbark Creek and Tangaratta.
