When we think of Darwin, we usually think of going in the dry season.  This certainly allows us to enjoy activities like the Darwin Cup in July and the renowned festival, which runs each year in August.  It also means that most of the spectacular national parks are open.  The downside is that the city is more crowded, accommodation is difficult to come by and you will have missed the experience of the Wet!

Don’t let the wet season put you off … yes, it is usually around 30 degrees most days, but the afternoon storms cool things down and provide an awesome background to a place of astonishing natural beauty.  The wet season is Darwin’s best-kept secret and a great antidote to the hot, dry summers and water restrictions of the southern states.

Another upside is the lack of crowds and while portions of Kakadu are closed due to the water, those that are open are alive with torrents gushing through scenery that has to be seen to be believed.

Darwin has many choices of accommodation and operators are generally offering great deals during the Wet, which typically comes in around December, but can be as late as February and ArafuraBlue is a property that answers many needs, with its great location and flexible accommodation.

This elevated residence is set within landscaped tropical gardens with a saltwater pool and spa, undercover entertainment area and BBQ (perfect for wet season visits!) and is only 5 minutes from Darwin International Airport.  It has separate living areas on two levels and comfortably sleeps 6 people, but can be configured to sleep up to 8.  There is plenty of room to park your cars, boat and caravan, and if your furry friend sleeps outside, then he is welcome too as ArafuraBlue is one of the pet-friendly accommodations in the Top End!

Upstairs comprises the kitchen, open plan lounge and dining room and three bedrooms.  The main and second bedrooms have queen and double beds respectively and both open onto a shady verandah, which overlooks the front garden.  The third bedroom has 2 king single beds, which convert into a king-size, if required.

While travelling with friends and family is always fun, there are times when everyone needs a little space – particularly teenagers! – and ArafuraBlue has a downstairs area with an air-conditioned single bedroom, and a large living area with comfortable futon lounges that can be converted for extra sleeping space. This separate living area allows solitude and privacy and makes the house one that answers most needs.

This is the perfect base for your exploration around the Top End.  In fact the property is so comfortable that is it sometimes used for corporate relocations, allowing those moving to Darwin to settle in and get their bearings while enjoying all the comforts of home, and then some!

If you choose to concentrate your stay in Darwin, then ArafuraBlue is perfectly placed to ensure you can enjoy everything the city has to offer, including the pristine Casuarina Coastal Reserve area of Lee Point and Dripstone Cliffs.  The Buffalo Creek boat ramp is 5 minutes away and is the gateway to the fishing and crabbing fun of Shoal Bay.

So why not change your thinking about the best time to visit Darwin and enjoy the delights of the Wet season – and ArafuraBlue?
