When we think of Darwin, we usually think of going in the dry season.  This certainly allows us to enjoy activities like the Darwin Cup in July and the renowned festival, which runs each year in August.  It also means that most of the spectacular national parks are open.  The downside is that the city is more crowded, accommodation is difficult to come by and you will have missed the experience of the Wet!
