Stonewell Road
Tanunda Barossa Valley South Australia

The cottages are in a gorgeous setting, surrounded by vines and overlooking a private lake…. the quintessential wine experience!

Overall rating?    Excellent, with outstanding ambience

What makes Stonewell Cottages different?

The cottages are far enough out of town for a perfect romantic escape, ideal for us as we were on our honeymoon. Even with three other cottages nearby, there is plenty of privacy and the setting among the vines and the view of the lake make it a wonderful place to spend time with someone special.

Accommodation overview
Our Haven Spa Retreat had a ‘pillow top’ queen-size bed, with quality linen and towels, and also had a wool quilt and electric blanket.

Facilities overview
The bathroom has a luxury 2 person spa, separate shower and comes complete with quality guest amenities, fluffy towels and bathrobes.  The kitchen/living room has comfy lounges, a wood fire, reverse cycle air-conditioning, TV/DVD/stereo and a selection of magazines and books.

There are views from all windows and each cottage has a private BBQ area with sun lounges and market umbrella.

The country-style kitchen is well equipped and although there is no oven, the Miele twin electric hotplate, the microwave and electric frying pan are all you need to whip up a marvellous breakfast from the supplies in the fridge, and there is a dishwasher for an easy clean up. The bacon is fantastic – and shows what sub-standard stuff we eat most of the time! There is a good selection of jams, free-range eggs, bakery breads and yoghurts, as well as a range of teas and freshly ground coffee.

Tanunda is about 1.5 hours north of Adelaide by car and Stonewell Cottages in the Barossa Valley are far enough from town for privacy and serenity, but near enough to make the most of the amenities.

Suitable for children?        No

Suitable for pets?               No

Wheelchair access?           No

Perfect for?
Honeymooners, and couples in general looking for a romantic break.

Why stay longer?
We loved the romantic location, sipping wine in the spa bath, feeding the ducks and generally enjoying the gorgeous location. The region abounds in wineries, eateries and gourmet providores.

Why you wouldn’t stay longer?
The Haven Spa Retreats are compact and our stay of six days was the upper limit, particularly as there isn’t a washing machine. However, for a longer stay, the Hideaway Cottage and Cupid’s Cottage are more suitable as they both have washing machine/dryers and offer a bigger kitchen with oven and larger living area.

We paid $1600 for the 6 nights, which is $267 p/night. Check Stonewell Cottages' accommodation listing for current rates and deals and to enquire for your booking.
