Victoria is blessed with an abundance of beautiful places and the Gippsland Lakes area is certainly one of them.  It is the perfect base to explore the lakes and the wilderness areas surrounding them … and the perfect place to stay while enjoying the serenity of this paradise is the Waverley House Cottages at Lakes Entrance.

These latest additions to the accommodation in the area have much to offer, nestled on 8 acres of private, landscaped native gardens, which overlook Bass Strait and the lush golf course next door.

There are six cottages and all are fully self-contained and their differing configurations make them suitable for just about anyone.  The two-bedroom cottages (4) are ideal for families or groups of friends and are equipped with all you need to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable, including a full kitchen/laundry, gorgeous fittings and of course TV/DVD/VCR … not that anyone will be wanting to linger indoors when so much is on offer outside!

The one-bedroom cottages (2) are designed for a special escape; because in addition to the facilities above, they also offer a two-person spa, surround sound system and wood fire.  Throw in the solar heated pool, BBQs and the heated spa with its own wood fire and you will wonder how you will ever manage to leave.

The Waverley House Cottages are an accredited tourism business, have been awarded 4.5 stars and recently won the 2007 Gippsland Tourism Award for Hosted Accommodation.  These awards are testament to the expertise and involvement of hosts Robin & Jan Davis, who live on site and have the blood of five generations of fishing and hospitality involvement running in their veins, which no doubt explains their passion for the region.  In fact the name of the cottages harks back to a guesthouse owned by Rob’s grandparents in the early 20th century

Their knowledge of all that is on offer will help you make the most of your stay in this glorious part of the world.  A short walk over the footbridge takes you to spectacular 90 Mile Beach and the lakes have every type of maritime entertainment you could wish for, including cruises, kayaks and boats and you can either take the helm yourself, or sit back and let someone else do the hard work.  You can even visit a nearby winery by boat.

Lakes Entrance is also well-known for its array of restaurants and the Waverley House Cottages are only a 2 minute drive from these gustatory delights.  The area is home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the Southern Hemisphere and the local restaurants make good use of their access to the fresh catch.  Try to fit in a round of golf or spoil yourself with a scenic flight that gives you a bird’s-eye view of the unequalled waterways and forests.
And at the end of the day, return to one your welcoming cottages and relax on the verandah with a glass of something cold, and plan your activities for the next day as you contemplate the natural beauty that is Lakes Entrance.
