Terrigal
  • Terrigal Beach
  • Terrigal main street and shops
  • Clan Lakeside Lodge
  • Terrigal beach looking toward the headland
  • Beautiful, even on a cloudy day!
Terrigal is the perfect base to explore the Central Coast as there is so much to see and do. It is halfway between Sydney and Newcastle, which makes it a great holiday destination without having to travel too far, although we came from further afield and it was definitely worth the trip.

Things to do
Terrigal has something for everyone... one of the great pleasures is walking along the beach with your loved one and hearing delighted squeals as children play in the water and build sandcastles on the beach. There are many activities in the area from sailing to kayaking, and pelican feeding tours to horseriding, which are all available on Holiday Inspirations under Terrigal activities.

If shopping is your thing, then you will enjoy the many great shops, with everything from clothes and surf shops to an amazing lolly shop the kids (big and small!) will love. Erina Fair is just up the road and includes the major department stores and over 300 specialty stores, so you’re sure to find something for the whole family.

Terrigal is full of dining options and you could easily dine at a different restaurant each night. The Terrigal Hotel is a standout and is only 2 minutes from the town centre. The Lagoon Bistro and Bar overlooks the lagoon and across the sand to the breakers of Terrigal Beach, with a great atmosphere and quality food at excellent prices. Other choices include Hungry Wolf’s Italian Pizza and Pasta and the Hog’s Breath Café, which has wonderful views over the beach as well as the option of alfresco dining.

When to go
The Central Coast enjoys a mild climate and it is a lovely place to holiday year round. Summer is peak season of course, with so many wonderful beaches and water activities to choose from. However winter is usually mild and it is a less busy time to enjoy the many attractions that are not water-based.

How to get there
Terrigal is located an easy one hour drive along the F3 from Sydney and is about 20 minutes north of Avoca Beach and handy to the other great locations on the NSW Central Coast. It is around an hour and a half south of Newcastle on the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway and just a tad longer if you go along the Central Coast Highway and enjoy the scenic route.

Accommodation
There are a variety of accommodation options in Terrigal from resort accommodation to self-contained houses and motels such as the Clan Lakeside Lodge, which is right on the lagoon with direct access to the beach and close to the shops. While there is plenty of accommodation in Terrigal, it is at a premium in the summer months and the prices reflect that, so if you are looking for a cheaper alternative and don’t need to stay on the beach, then Gosford is only a 10 minute drive away. Erina Fair is in the middle so you can take advantage of the late night shopping on your way home from the beach. Check the TakeABreak Terrigal accommodation for a  great choice of places to stay.

Ideal length of visit
If you can, take a week and really get to know the delights of Terrigal and beyond. However if you can only spare a few days, you will still have plenty of time to savour the beautiful beaches, great restaurants and quirky shops of the area.
