"Arriving under a star-filled sky, we entered the wonderfully inviting, secluded cottage, and were instantly charmed by its roaring fire. The quiet bush setting, along with its great vista was just as we might have hoped, topped off with a feeling of privacy that's often lost when looking to get away.” – Vicki, ACT, Aug 2010

Steve & Kerri of Anketell Forest have created a unique holiday experience or intercity stop-over with appointments not usually found in the budget range. With a spa, wood fire and expansive views, Tor Cottage is a hideaway that makes you feel on top of the world and, at 1000m, you almost are. Perched atop a granite boulder in the lee of a forested hillside amongst 800ha of wildlife refuge, the self-contained pet-friendly Tor Cottage is one of a kind.

Only minutes off the New England Hwy just south of Tenterfield, it’s easy to get to but once you do it’s hard to leave. And it’s easy to see why. Tor Cottage is incredibly relaxing. The only sounds are birdsong, the wind in the trees and its guests’ sighs of relaxed pleasure.

Whether you are lounging on the large timber deck that merges with the boulders or indulging in the double spa with views across the northern New England Tablelands, Tor Cottage offers complete privacy. No-one can see you yet you can see for miles. The only time you’re likely to see anyone is when Steve or Kerri discreetly restock your woodpile or deliver one of their delicious food baskets to your deck.

All the furniture in Tor Cottage is made from fallen timber that is salvaged, milled and crafted at Anketell Forest. The hand-made stone floor surrounding the spa and fire is made from exfoliated granite collected from the property. Just out your door is a wonderland of granite boulder landscapes, forest, native flora and fauna. Be quiet and you’ll spy the wallaroos eating the Tor Cottage lawn or the king parrots squawking in the trees.

Tor Cottage at Anketell Forest is a place to make peace or make some noise, to sing to the sunset or snore till midday. No one can disturb you. Walks in the surrounding bush reveal impressive granite boulders, beautiful wildflowers, towering gums and birdlife all around. A cosy night inside is easy with a fully equipped yet compact kitchen, DVD, CD and the most comfy couch in NSW.

As well as Tor Cottage, Steve and Kerri host another accommodation venue, The Shearing Shed at Anketell Forest, which is a budget-conscious option especially suited for families. Again with stunning views, The Shearing Shed features two ensuite bedrooms, two decks, a huge living area, a caterer’s kitchen, and additional sleeping for six plus a third bathroom.

Both Tor Cottage and The Shearing Shed offer stylish pet-friendly accommodation for one night or more at a homely budget price. Book your next holiday or Sydney – Brisbane stop-over at Anketell Forest through TakeABreak for the best rates. You won’t be disappointed.

Tor Cottage is proud to be shortlisted in the 2010 TakeABreak Awards. Check out Tor Cottage on takeabreak.com.au
