Bushwalking on Brisbane's doorstep

Brisbane Forest Park is a piece of beautiful wilderness in the middle of a city of nearly a million people.

The park comprises 28,500 ha of multi-use forest, plus the Walkabout Creek Visitors' Centre and plays an important role for Brisbanites as a green 'lung' for the city and a place for a wide range of recreational activities in a natural setting, from sedate picnics around a table to those wild and woolly bushwalks.

But it also includes forestry land, council land containing watersheds and areas used for environmental research.

The park runs an impressive array of activities from hands-on educational children's activities to art classes in the bush, lectures, and a series of walking opportunities from a gentle stroll to death-defying adventures.

The park is suited for all types of walkers, from the superfit to the families who want to take it a little easier.

The Brisbane Forest Park is part of the D'Aguilar Range and the Brisbane Forest Park Information Centre is located on Mt Nebo Road at The Gap, 12km from the city centre. A bus service from the city stops right at the door (for timetables see http://www.transinfo.com.au).

Picnic areas, walking tracks and lookouts within the Brisbane Forest Park can be accessed via Mt Nebo Road and are between 15 and 95 minutes drive from the city centre. As the bus service terminates at the information centre, you will need your own transport to access these areas.
